Meet the Trainers

The staff at Finesse Soccer offers a unique approach to soccer player development in the Kansas City area. Our training staff are all hand-picked, locally grown female players who enjoyed successful careers while playing in the Kansas City area, followed by collegiate careers at some of the top soccer schools in the nation.

Our two Directors of Training at Finesse Soccer have extraordinary backgrounds. Not only did they each enjoy tremendous success on and off the field during their high school days in Kansas City, and they each went on to play Division 1 soccer…but they’ve also competed against each other nearly their entire youth soccer “careers.” They are now supported by a very talented staff to provide the best customized training in Kansas City for the elite soccer player looking to take their game to the next level.

Carrie Fry Robinson – Director of Attacking Players

Carrie has been actively involved in the soccer community since returning to Kansas City in 2008. She holds a USSF National D License and currently coaches two premier girls soccer teams.

She earned a soccer and academic scholarship to Indiana University (NCAA Div 1) in 2001, demonstrating excellence in both the classroom and on the field. There, she graduated with honors from the Kelley School of Business, and went on to work for Deloitte Consulting in San Francisco.

Back in the “glory days“, Carrie was a four-year Varsity starter for Shawnee Mission East High School from 1998-2001, where she led the Lancers to two Kansas 6A High School State Championships (and one runner-up…she’d prefer not to remember that one!). She received numerous accolades at both a local, regional and national level, including NSCAA Academic All-America, First Team All-State, All-Metro, All-League and All-County.

In 2001, she was honored as the All-Metro Player of the Year, and was awarded both the KC Star Scholar Athlete of the Year (HM) and All-Sun Girls Scholar-Athlete of the Year. Deemed “the most prolific girls scorer in Kansas high school history“, she set the state record for goals in a season in 2001 (36) and currently holds the Shawnee Mission East HS record for career goals and goals in a season. One of her favorite memories was scoring a hat-trick against the top goalkeeper in the state in the 2000 6A State Finals.

Her club team, the KC Heat coached by Gags Pritchard, won State Cup numerous times and went on to represent the state of Kansas at Regionals.

Today, Carrie lives in Prairie Village with her husband Michael and daughter Ada, and their two dogs – Yampa and Sydney. She thinks they’re all adorable.

When she’s not coaching, she stays busy with her day job, web strategy consulting at her own web services firm, Alvin H. LLC.

Laura Boyer – Director of Goalkeepers

Laura Boyer grew up playing soccer in the Kansas City area.  She attended Blue Valley Northwest High School and was inducted into the school’s Hall of Fame in 2009.  She was a scholastic All-American in high school and college.  Her club team, KCFC Alliance Revolution coached by Gags Pritchard, was ranked as high as 9th in the nation and sent 13 girls to division 1 schools to play soccer.

Laura played goalkeeper for Marquette University.  While there, the team made two trips to the NCAA tournament, most notably in 2005 when they advanced to the Sweet 16.  Laura was Marquette’s first ever M.A.C. Herman Award candidate in 2006.  In 2009, Laura was honored by the University with the 62nd annual McCahill Award, which is presented to the Marquette senior athlete from the previous year who has demonstrated the highest performance in scholarship, leadership and athletics. After college, Laura spent a season playing soccer professionally for Qbik, a club in Karlstad, Sweden. Click here to check out an article about her.

Her recent coaching experience includes goalkeeping coach for Notre Dame de Sion High School and Athletico Soccer Club as well as team coach for Blue Moose Soccer Club.  She has conducted individual and group GK training sessions in Kansas, Missouri, Wisconsin, and Sweden.  She has coached at Region II ODP Camp in (Dekalb, IL), Marquette University High School Camp, Camp Shutout (Milwaukee, WI), and Minnesota Goalkeeping Challenge.

Currently, Laura lives in Overland Park, KS and is a financial advisor for Boyer & Corporon Wealth Management, LLC.

 

Our Trainers

Blair Slapper – Forward / Defender

Blair Slapper grew up playing in the Kansas City area. She attended Shawnee Mission East High School, where she was a four year letter winner. Blair also lettered in track as a sophomore, qualifying for the Kansas Relays and State Track Meet. In the club circuit she played for KCFC Alliance Heat under Doug McLagan, which won the 2006 Kansas State Championship. That same season the team was ranked 18th in the nation.

Blair accepted a scholarship to the University of Nebraska. She was defender for the Cornhuskers and appeared in 74 matches and started well over half of those matches on the back line. She graduated in May 2012 and was a member of the honor roll being named academic all Big 12 and Big 10 all four years.  In the summer of 2009, she played soccer for the W-League team the Seattle Sounders.

Her coaching experience has been with Capital Soccer Association in Lincoln, Nebraska. Blair worked primarily with youth players under the ages of 13, she also coached at various University sponsored camps and clinics.

She currently lives in Prairie Village, KS and recently accepted at position at Lockton as an Account Administrator.

 

Britt Strick Sherer – Midfield / Defender

Britt Sherer is a long-time member of the Kansas City Soccer Community. She was born and raised in Prairie Village where she learned all about soccer from many great KC soccer coaches.

While growing up she played club soccer for KCFC and played 4 years Varsity soccer at Shawnee Mission East (1999-2002). Britt was one of Carrie’s teammates where they won State twice and brought great excitement to the Shawnee Mission East Soccer Community. After attending East, Britt stayed close to home and played soccer at Baker University in Baldwin City, Kansas from 2002-2006. There she started in the defense all four years and was named captain both her junior and senior year. During her sophomore year of college she was named All-Region in the Heart of America Athletic Conference.  In 2008, Britt was voted into the Baker Women’s Soccer Hall of Fame for defense.

Since college, Britt moved to Chicago and while living there she coached at Sports Made Personal, where she coached individual and group sessions for kids of all ages. She also coached a U-10 boys and girls club team while living in Chicago. Once returning from Chicago, Britt found herself back at her Alma Mater coaching the girls Junior Varsity soccer team. Britt has been the part of the SME girl’s soccer program since 2010 and in 2011 began coaching the Junior Varsity boys team as well. She loves being back at East and enjoys spending her spring and fall seasons on the soccer field. She spends her summers coaching soccer camps around Kansas City and tries as much as possible to play soccer when she can.

Currently, Britt is working towards her teaching certificate and will begin student teaching in the fall of 2012. When she is not studying, Britt nannies part time. She currently lives in Overland Park with her husband, Brandon and their two dogs, Lucy and Harvey.

 

Michaella Fulmer – Midfield/Forward

Michaella Fulmer grew up playing soccer in the Kansas City Area. She was a four year letter winner at O’hara High School. Throughout her four years, she broke the Missouri High School state scoring record with 218 goals. She was a four time first team all-state and all-district selection. In 2006, she was named the Missouri Class 1 Player of the Year.

In the club circuit, Michaella played at St. Louis Soccer Club, which won nine Missouri State Cup Championships. She played a huge role in helping the club to a second place finish in Region II, while gaining a top-25 national ranking.

Michaella played her collegiate soccer at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. She played both as a forward and finished her career on the back line, starting every game her senior year. During her time at Nebraska, she had nine goals and nine assists. Michaella graduated in May 2012 with a degree in Accounting and was a member of the honor roll being named academic all Big 12 and Big 10 all four years.

Her coaching experience has been with Capital Soccer Association in Lincoln, Nebraska. Michaella has worked at various University sponsored camps and clinics, working with youth players of all ages.

Michaella currently lives in Lee’s Summit, Mo and works as an Underwriting Analyst for MetLife.

 

Rebecca Ewing – Goalkeeper

Rebecca Ewing grew up playing soccer in the Kansas City area, Lenexa.  She played Goalkeeper at Shawnee Mission West where they made it to the State Championship her junior and senior years. Her senior year, she was honored  as All-Sunflower league, All-Kansas and was All-Metro 1st team goalkeeper.  She played club soccer for the KC Comets.

Rebecca earned a soccer and academic scholarship to William Jewell in Liberty, MO, where she  played 4 years of soccer, making it into post-season play all 4 years and to the NAIA tournament.  She graduated with a major in psychology, pre-physical therapy, ACT-In (gen ed) and a minor in Coaching and performance enhancement.  After undergrad, she went on to postgraduate school through Northwestern University where she completed a certificate program in both orthotics and prosthetics.  In the fall of 2011, she Rebecca was the UMKC Women’s Goalkeeper Coach.

Today, she is working through her residency and preparing for boards currently at Horizon Orthotic and Prosthetic Experience (HOPE) in Overland Park, KS.
